Dentures Vs. Implants

It is time to improve your smile and give you back the confidence to smile again, so you visit your dentist and discover dentures and dental implants. Dentures are custom molded devices that fit on the top of gums. They allow patients to maintain a normal appearance; however, chewing  power is compromised in that it is not as strong (Howard B. Feffer, D.D.S.). Dentures are easily removable for cleaning and can be held in place for a stronger bite by the use of dental adhesives in powder or paste form.

Dental implant is a metal device made of titanium and is surgically placed into the jaw, which is permanent, acting as a tooth root for a single tooth, bridge or full dentures. It further prevents bone mass loss around the implant and gives a more natural and stronger chewing power. While the implant itself is not removable, the denture that attaches to the implant it. There is no need for the use of adhesive as the denture "snaps" into place.

The price range is anywhere from $3,500 for dentures to $15,000 for implants. Most dental offices offer low cost to free consultations. That is what I did five months ago.
